Rural tourism is an activity done in a rural environment distant from the overcrowding of big cities. Much of it is even found in woodland settings and places of tranquility. They are usually refurbished farms and country houses that are operated by families offering unique preferential treatment and consideration. In the rural houses of Vilajoan, one can find a perfect place of peace and tranquility for rest and relaxation with the family during much deserved vacations. There is a multiplicity of things to do in the Ampurdán or Alt Empordà area. On one hand, we have watersports in the Costa Brava. It is where we can practice scuba diving off Cap de Creus (Cape Creus) and the Illes Medes (Medes Islands), windsurfing and kitesurfing off Sant Pere Pescador or take a cruise around the Golf of Roses. On the other hand, we can enjoy the magnificent views from a hot-air balloon over the Parque Natural de la Zona Volcánica de la Garrotxa (Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park) or also practice skydiving in Empuriabrava. And if that were not enough, there are bicycle paths, foot paths or horseback riding paths at the advisory boards of the different local regional councils.
